As a result of a new partnership between Northern Sydney Symphonic Wind Ensemble (NSSWE) and Freshwater Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank, a massive $73,157 has been donated to the Youth Orchestra to purchase an impressive range of high quality, professional-standard percussion and large woodwind instruments. Enjoy their final performance for 2011 and appreciate the quality and range of performance.

In 2012, the Freshwater Spring Festival of Chamber Music will again be hosting some wonderful internationally acclaimed artists. On the anniversary of our famous Duke Kahanamoku’s surfing display at Freshwater Beach, the surf life saving club’s environmental team, SurfNomes, are hosting the inaugural ‘Duke’s Day’ to create awareness of environmental sustainability. There will be exhibits from local eco-trade, surfing movie archives, Hula Challenge and various surfing demonstrations from dawn till midday.

The Harbord Community Bank sponsored  South Curly SLSC Ocean Swim has been run and won for 2010.  This destination swim from South Curly to Freshwater beach continues to grow in size and popularity and really does showcase the beauty of living in this part of the Northern Beaches. Monies raised from this swim, and from our sponsors contributions go a long way towards financing the purchase of lifesaving equipment needed to put patrols on our challenging piece of sand. First male across the line was Darrin Jones with female contender Luane Rowe in hot pursuit.

Freshwater SLSC – Barney Mullins Swim
Where: Freshwater Beach
In 2010 we had over 300 entrants  participating in the  1.5k event. Most swimmers were from the local area  but many travelled from the southern and western areas of Sydney to participate. Many Freshwater members entered the event with club members Jordan Burdan and Alisha Miller being the first  male and female place getters  respectively while  the youngest swim entrant  current freshwater ‘cadet’ Lara Dragasevich, won the U18 Girls event. Trevor Sargeant, Alisha Miller, Jordan Burdan and Sandra Kleiner.
